Minister of Human Rights Meets with the Undersecretary of Raymah Governorate and Discusses the Human Rights Situation in the Governorate

The Minister of Human Rights, Mashdal Mohammed Omar, met today, Wednesday, with the Undersecretary of Raymah Governorate, Mohammed Al-Asal, and discussed with him the latest developments in the human rights situation in the governorate and the grave violations committed against civilians by the terrorist Houthi militias, amid the continued practices of repression and intimidation against the population.

The meeting reviewed aspects of the violations that have affected the people of Raymah, including killing, abduction, arbitrary arrest, enforced disappearance, raids on homes, and the looting of public and private property, in addition to threats, intimidation, and various forms of restrictions imposed on civilians, as well as the humanitarian, social, and psychological impacts these practices have caused for the victims and their families.

The meeting also discussed the issue of prisons and secret detention centers operated by the Houthi militias in the governorate, and the associated violations involving torture and ill-treatment of detainees and forcibly disappeared persons, whose families have remained unaware of their fate for years, which necessitates revealing their fate and guaranteeing their legal and human rights.

Minister Mashdal stressed the importance of documenting these violations and preserving the related evidence and data, in a manner that contributes to protecting the rights of victims and providing them with redress, and supports efforts toward accountability and holding perpetrators of violations accountable in accordance with the law. He emphasized that impunity should not prevent victims from obtaining justice and the truth from being revealed.

For his part, the Undersecretary of Raymah Governorate conveyed to the Minister of Human Rights the greetings of the Governor of the Governorate, Sheikh Mohammed Ali Saleh Al-Houri, praising the Ministry’s efforts in monitoring and documenting violations affecting the people of the governorate, and stressing the importance of continued coordination and cooperation in this field, in a manner that ensures that the suffering of victims is conveyed to the relevant authorities and strengthens the path toward accountability and redress.
