The Republic of Yemen participated today in the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, held in Geneva, Switzerland, with a delegation headed by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Human Rights, Nabil Abdulhafeedh.
In the Republic of Yemen’s statement during the review of the report of the International Fact-Finding Mission on human rights violations in Iran, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Human Rights affirmed that the report provided clear documentation of the extent of grave human rights violations, including arbitrary killings, torture, unlawful arrests, as well as the systematic targeting of human rights defenders, journalists, and women.
He pointed out that systematic Iranian interference in the internal affairs of states, particularly its support for the terrorist Houthi militia in Yemen, has contributed to encouraging the militia to replicate and repeat patterns of violations, commit war crimes and crimes against humanity, obstruct the delivery of humanitarian assistance, and threaten the security of international navigation and neighboring countries, posing a direct threat to regional and international security and stability.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Human Rights stressed the importance of holding those responsible for these violations accountable, strengthening mechanisms for the protection of civilians, and intensifying international cooperation to ensure respect for the rules of international law and human rights. He emphasized the need for the international community to take practical steps to protect victims, hold perpetrators of crimes accountable, and criminalize violations of state sovereignty.
He also called for strengthening collective action to confront cross-border threats, including Iranian attacks on the infrastructure of brotherly Gulf and Arab countries, while emphasizing the importance of maintaining regional and international peace and security.
The session was attended by Dr. Hamid Omar, Deputy Permanent Representative of Yemen to the United Nations in Geneva.
