Geneva | 29 September 2026

The Minister of Human Rights, Mashdal Mohammed Omar, visited the visual arts and human rights exhibition titled “What Is… and What Ought to Be”, organized by the Humanitarian League for Rights at the United Nations Square in Geneva, in conjunction with the ongoing session of the Human Rights Council.

Minister Mashdal, accompanied by Deputy Minister Nabil Abdulhafiz, viewed the artistic and documentary works presented by visual artist Dr. Altaf Hamdi as part of the “Humanitarian Cultural Art Caravan” initiative, and listened to an explanation of their content and human rights messages.

The exhibited works addressed the human rights situation in Yemen and the violations committed against civilians by the terrorist Houthi militia, including the planting of landmines, recruitment of children, targeting of residential neighborhoods, destruction of educational facilities, and damage to the foundations of civilian life.

The Minister of Human Rights praised the initiative and those behind it, stressing the importance of utilizing art and visual media to convey the suffering of victims, amplify their voices to international public opinion, and confront disinformation campaigns aimed at obscuring the reality of the violations committed against Yemenis.

The Minister noted that combining artistic works with documented human rights data and statistics, and presenting them in foreign languages, enhances the impact of the human rights message and contributes to informing the international community of the scale of the crimes and violations. He called for the continuation of such initiatives at regional and international forums in a manner that serves the causes of victims and supports pathways toward accountability and justice.
