The Minister of Human Rights, Mashdal Mohammed Omar, met on Sunday, in the interim capital, Aden, with the Country Director of ACCEPT International, Amjad Al-Sharjabi, to discuss areas of joint cooperation between the ministry and the organization in the human rights and humanitarian fields.
The meeting addressed ways to strengthen the partnership in implementing programs and projects aimed at rehabilitating detainees and forcibly disappeared persons in the prisons of the Houthi terrorist militias, thereby addressing the psychological and social impacts they have endured as a result of the violations they were subjected to.
The meeting also discussed the possibility of developing a comprehensive national policy on the rehabilitation of this group and their reintegration into society, according to humanitarian and human rights approaches that ensure restoring their normal lives and enhance their opportunities for effective integration.
The minister emphasized the importance of this humanitarian issue, stressing the need for concerted national and international efforts to address its repercussions, and commending the organization’s efforts in this regard. He pointed out that the government attaches the highest priority to the issue of detainees and forcibly disappeared persons, given its humanitarian and national dimension, noting that these efforts would contribute to achieving justice and promoting social peace. He added that the government is making significant efforts to ensure the release of all detainees and those forcibly disappeared in Houthi militia prisons, based on the “all-for-all” principle, emphasizing the continued work and coordination with various parties to achieve this humanitarian goal.
The minister pointed out that the Houthi militias have abducted and disappeared thousands of Yemenis, in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights conventions, which requires urgent international action to end these violations and ensure accountability for the perpetrators. The Country Director of the ACCEPT organization affirmed the organization’s commitment to strengthening cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Human Rights, noting the importance of developing joint programs focused on the psychological and social rehabilitation of detainees and forcibly disappeared persons, and strengthening the capacity of relevant national institutions, thus contributing to an effective and sustainable response to this humanitarian issue.
The meeting was attended by Omar Bamatarf, Director of the Minister’s Office, Amin Al-Mashouli, Director of Planning and Follow-up at the Ministry, and from the organization, Ammar Abdullah Mahyoub, Public Policy Advisor, and Yasser Saleh, Advisor.
