The Minister of Human Rights, Mishdal Mohammed Omar, received today, Wednesday, the Head of the Republic’s Prison Authority, Major General Abdulsalam Al-Dhalei, and wished him success in carrying out his duties. The Minister expressed hope that the coming period would witness further progress in correctional work and enhanced institutional performance within the Prison Authority.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed a number of issues related to the Authority’s operations, particularly the challenges it faces, its technical and logistical needs, and ways to improve the conditions of correctional institutions, enhance detention environments, and strengthen the services provided to inmates.
The meeting also reviewed areas of cooperation and coordination between the Ministry of Human Rights and the Prison Authority to further protect the rights of inmates, increase field visits to monitor conditions in correctional institutions, and support rehabilitation and reform programmes.
The Minister of Human Rights reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to expanding its partnership with the Prison Authority and all relevant stakeholders, and to providing technical support within its mandate to help address existing challenges and strengthen the correctional and rehabilitation system.
For his part, the Head of the Prison Authority expressed his appreciation for the Ministry’s interest and willingness to cooperate, stressing the importance of continued coordination to advance institutional performance and improve conditions in correctional institutions across the country’s governorates.
