Minister of Human Rights Meets Mothers of Abductees Association in Aden

The Minister of Human Rights, Meshdal Mohammed Omar, met on Thursday in the interim capital, Aden, with representatives of the Aden branch of the Mothers of Abductees Association to discuss key issues related to abductees and forcibly disappeared persons.

The Minister affirmed that the ministry places the ملف of abductees and enforced disappearances at the forefront of its priorities, as part of its responsibility to pursue justice and uncover the fate of those missing wherever they may be, contributing to addressing this humanitarian قضية and safeguarding human dignity.

He emphasized the ministry’s commitment to strengthening coordination and cooperation with civil society organizations and relevant human rights actors—particularly the Mothers of Abductees Association—to support efforts in documenting violations, advocating for victims, and working jointly to ensure justice, prevent impunity, and advance the principles of transitional justice, thereby contributing to peace and stability in Yemen.

The Minister also commended the association’s role in representing victims’ families and amplifying their voices in national and international forums, stressing the importance of sustaining this humanitarian and human rights advocacy.

For her part, the Director of the Aden branch, Siham Ahmed, outlined the association’s efforts to uncover the fate of abductees, detainees, and forcibly disappeared individuals. She highlighted the profound humanitarian suffering endured by families for more than a decade and the deep impact of their loved ones’ absence on all aspects of their lives.

She called for the launch of a transparent and independent investigation to determine the fate and locations of all abductees and forcibly disappeared persons, ensuring justice for victims and their families and bringing an end to their prolonged suffering.
