Minister of Human Rights Welcomes One-Year Extension of the Masam Mine Action Project

The Minister of Human Rights, Mashdal Mohammed Omar, welcomed the decision of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to extend the Masam Project for Landmine Clearance in Yemen for an additional year, expressing his appreciation for the humanitarian role the project plays in protecting civilians and alleviating the suffering of those affected by landmines.

The Minister emphasized that the extension represents an important step toward continuing efforts to reduce the risks posed by landmines planted by the Houthi terrorist militias across various Yemeni governorates. These mines have resulted in thousands of civilian casualties, including women and children, caused severe damage to local communities, and deprived many citizens of the ability to lead normal lives, move safely, and access their livelihoods.

He noted that mine clearance efforts constitute a vital humanitarian and human rights endeavor due to their direct contribution to protecting the right to life, enhancing the safety and security of civilians, and enabling affected communities to restore their economic and social activities.

The Minister of Human Rights also expressed his profound appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia—its leadership, government, and people—for their fraternal support for the Yemeni people. He affirmed that the continuation of the Masam Project represents a fundamental contribution to civilian protection and the creation of a safer and more stable environment, reflecting a steadfast humanitarian commitment to the Yemeni people and their prolonged suffering as a result of the war.
