The Ministry of Human Rights condemns in the strongest terms the terrorist attacks carried out by the terrorist Houthi militias on Saturday afternoon using ballistic missiles against Aden International Airport and Coast Guard headquarters affiliated with the Ministry of Interior in the interim capital, Aden. These blatant attacks threaten the lives of residents and travelers and the safety of personnel, and target vital facilities and institutions responsible for maintaining security, enforcing the law, and protecting society.
The Ministry affirms that the Houthi militias’ claims of targeting military sites constitute an attempt to mislead public opinion and justify the attacks on Coast Guard headquarters, as the two targeted facilities, located at the Ministry of Interior’s headquarters and in Al-Tawahi District, perform civilian and law enforcement functions. The Ministry stresses that carrying out these functions does not make the facilities military objectives, and that the militias’ description of them as military sites neither changes their civilian character nor deprives them of the protection afforded under international humanitarian law.
The Ministry emphasizes that the targeting of Aden International Airport with two ballistic missiles, for the fourth time this month, represents a dangerous escalation that threatens civil aviation safety and the lives of passengers and airport personnel. It also risks disrupting travel, medical evacuations, and the transportation of humanitarian assistance, thereby exacerbating the suffering of the population, particularly patients who depend on the airport to access medical treatment.
The Ministry considers these attacks a manifestation of the Houthi militias’ terrorist approach, their disregard for the lives of residents and the rules governing the protection of civilians, and their determination to terrorize the population, undermine their security, and damage institutions responsible for protecting them and providing essential services. It warns of the grave dangers posed by the continued use of ballistic missiles to target facilities within a densely populated city, including the threats to civilian lives and property, public facilities, and essential services.
The Ministry reaffirms its commitment to continuing to monitor and document these attacks and to coordinate with the relevant national authorities to preserve evidence and strengthen accountability mechanisms, with a view to holding accountable all those who ordered, planned, or carried out these attacks and safeguarding the rights of those affected. It calls on the United Nations and the international community to unequivocally condemn these attacks, exert effective pressure to halt Houthi militia attacks against civilians and civilian and service facilities, and take practical measures to protect the population, ensure civil aviation safety, and prevent the recurrence of such attacks.
