The Ministry of Human Rights condemns in the strongest terms the heinous crime of the abduction and assassination of Engineer Wissam Qaid, Acting Executive Director of the Social Fund for Development, which took place on Sunday evening in the temporary capital, Aden, in a shocking criminal incident that shook the human and national conscience.
This heinous crime not only constitutes a grave violation of the right to life, which is guaranteed by all laws and international instruments, but also represents a direct assault on development and humanitarian work in Yemen and a targeting of national competencies that have dedicated their lives to serving society and strengthening the resilience of citizens amid the exceptional circumstances the country is going through.
The deceased was a nationally recognized professional known for his dedication and commitment. He contributed effectively to the implementation of vital development programs, worked tirelessly to support local communities, improve livelihoods, provide employment opportunities, and contribute to rebuilding the social and economic fabric in Yemen.
The Ministry of Human Rights affirms that targeting national personnel working in the development and humanitarian fields represents a dangerous escalation that undermines efforts toward stability and development, and also reflects a concerning level of security breakdown that requires a firm stance from all concerned authorities.
While the Ministry expresses its profound sorrow and sincere condolences to the family of the deceased, his colleagues, and all employees of the Social Fund for Development, it calls on the competent authorities to promptly open an urgent and transparent investigation into this crime, pursue the perpetrators and bring them to justice so that they receive a deterrent punishment, and establish protection mechanisms to prevent the recurrence of such crimes.
The Ministry also calls on the international community and United Nations organizations to condemn this crime, support efforts aimed at investigating it, strengthen accountability mechanisms, ensure the protection of humanitarian and development workers, and hold the perpetrators of these crimes accountable and prevent them from escaping punishment.
The Ministry of Human Rights, while reiterating its strong condemnation of this treacherous crime, affirms that such acts will not deter the people of Yemen from continuing on the path of construction and development, and that justice will remain a demand that cannot be relinquished or treated with leniency.
