Ministry of Human Rights Welcomes the Adoption by Consensus of the Human Rights Council Resolution Supporting Yemen under Item 10

Geneva | 8 October 2026

The Ministry of Human Rights welcomed the adoption today by the United Nations Human Rights Council, by consensus and without a vote, of the draft resolution on technical assistance and capacity-building for Yemen in the field of human rights (A/HRC/63/L.33), under Item 10, during the Council’s 63rd session in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Ministry affirmed that the adoption of the resolution reflects continued international support for the Yemeni government and its national institutions and strengthens their efforts to protect human rights and build institutional capacities. It noted that this consensus represents the outcome of diplomatic efforts and joint coordination between the Ministry, Yemen’s Permanent Mission in Geneva, and brotherly and friendly countries supporting Yemen.

The Ministry expressed its appreciation to the brotherly Republic of Iraq, in its capacity as Chair of the Arab Group, for introducing the draft resolution, as well as to the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, members of the Core Group, and all countries that sponsored the draft and supported its adoption. It emphasized the importance of this support in assisting national institutions and enabling them to respond to the needs of the human rights situation in Yemen.

In the statement delivered by the Republic of Yemen as the country concerned before the Council, Ambassador Dr. Ali Majwar, Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva, affirmed that the resolution embodies the original mandate of Item 10, based on constructive cooperation and the provision of technical assistance and capacity-building at the request and with the consent of the country concerned.

Ambassador Majwar pointed out that renewed support for the institutions of the legitimate government, foremost among them the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights, strengthens their ability to continue documentation and field investigations throughout Yemen in accordance with international standards, thereby contributing to efforts to ensure accountability and provide justice for victims.

He reaffirmed the Republic of Yemen’s commitment to continuing constructive cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and facilitating its work. He noted that the adoption of the resolution by consensus sends a message of international solidarity with the Yemeni people and confirms the international community’s support for the government’s efforts to promote human rights and the rule of law.

The Ministry of Human Rights affirmed its commitment to following up on the implementation of the resolution in coordination with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the relevant national institutions, in a manner that contributes to directing technical assistance and capacity-building programs toward actual needs and strengthening the capacity of institutions to carry out their responsibilities in protecting rights and freedoms.
