Minister of Human Rights: Appointment is a National Responsibility to Strengthen Rights Protection and Accountability

The Minister of Human Rights, Meshdal Mohammed Omar, expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation to His Excellency the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, members of the Presidential Leadership Council, and the Prime Minister for the confidence placed in him through his appointment as Minister of Human Rights. He affirmed that this trust represents an increased national responsibility at a critical stage in Yemen’s history.
The Minister stated that this appointment is not merely an honor, but a national commitment that requires clarity of vision, firmness of position, and organized institutional work grounded in professionalism, particularly in light of the humanitarian and human rights challenges facing the country, which call for coordinated efforts between official institutions and society to protect rights and safeguard human dignity.
He emphasized his commitment to working diligently in the field of human rights, strengthening monitoring and documentation mechanisms in line with national and international standards, and addressing all forms of violations, foremost among them arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, child recruitment, and unlawful killings and torture.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of giving special attention to the protection of journalists and human rights defenders, and working to uphold the principle of accountability and combat impunity by pursuing those responsible for violations and bringing them to justice. He noted that such efforts will contribute to building a state based on the rule of law and institutions, and to strengthening trust in the human rights system.
