Minister of Human Rights Discusses Annual Plan of Joint Technical Committee to Prevent Child Recruitment with UNICEF

The Minister of Human Rights, Meshdal Mohammed Omar, met on Wednesday in the interim capital, Aden, with the Acting Country Director of UNICEF, Jesper Moller, to explore ways to strengthen joint cooperation in protecting children and preventing their involvement in armed conflict.

The two sides reviewed the annual work plan of the joint technical committee on preventing child recruitment, the level of implementation of planned activities, and mechanisms to enhance coordination between the ministry and UNICEF to achieve shared objectives.

They also assessed the committee’s performance over the past period and highlighted achievements under the roadmap agreed between the government and the United Nations, which has yielded positive results, most notably Yemen’s removal from the list related to child recruitment.

The Minister commended UNICEF’s efforts in supporting the implementation of the roadmap action plan, reaffirming the government’s firm commitment to protecting children as both a moral and legal obligation. He stressed the importance of continuing cooperation and advancing the implementation of the committee’s annual plan to ensure the sustainability of efforts aimed at ending child recruitment and strengthening the national protection system.

For his part, Jesper Moller praised the progress achieved in recent months, which has led to tangible results. He also underscored the importance of the Country Programme for 2026–2029, including its initiatives and projects aimed at protecting children in armed conflict and advancing the implementation of established protocols and procedures. He commended the government’s efforts, particularly those of the Ministry of Human Rights, in this regard.
