Minister of Human Rights, Mashdal Mohammed Omar, stated that the eleventh anniversary of the abduction of Yemeni politician Mohammed Qahtan by the terrorist Houthi militias represents an ongoing crime of enforced disappearance and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights law, particularly as he is covered by United Nations resolutions emphasizing the need for his release.
In a post published on the X platform, the Minister explained that Qahtan’s continued detention under unclear circumstances and the deprivation of his family of the right to know his fate reflect the extent of the humanitarian suffering endured by thousands of forcibly disappeared persons and undermine efforts to build confidence and advance peace processes.
The Minister of Human Rights stressed the need for the immediate and unconditional release of Mohammed Qahtan, disclosure of his fate, enabling his family to exercise their legal and humanitarian rights, and ending all practices of enforced disappearance against all abducted Yemenis.
He affirmed that continued delays and obstruction of the implementation of agreements concerning detainees are unacceptable, renewing his call to bring this humanitarian issue to an end.
