The Republic of Yemen affirmed that the terrorist Houthi militia, supported by the Iranian regime, poses a direct threat to regional peace and security and international navigation, and contributes to undermining Yemen’s sovereignty and stability, disrupting essential services, and obstructing the delivery of humanitarian assistance to those in need.
In a statement delivered by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Human Rights, Nabil Abdulhafeedh, during the general debate under Item 4 at the 61st session of the Human Rights Council, the Republic of Yemen reaffirmed its commitment to working with regional and international partners to strengthen security and stability and protect human rights in Yemen and the region.
Abdulhafeedh stated that Yemen supports the contents of the Arab Group’s statement and draws the Council’s attention to the grave and repeated violations committed by the Houthi coup militia against the Yemeni people, including indiscriminate killings, torture, forced recruitment of children, and attacks on civilians and humanitarian facilities. These violations have been documented in reports issued by the United Nations and international organizations.
The Republic of Yemen also condemned Iranian interference in the affairs of states and support for armed groups that commit serious violations against their peoples. It denounced repeated attacks on vital infrastructure in Gulf countries and brotherly Arab states, including oil facilities, airports, and ports, and the direct threat these attacks pose to civilians and the serious escalation they represent in the region.
The Republic of Yemen called on the international community to ensure respect for international law without discrimination, hold perpetrators of crimes and violations accountable, and criminalize violations of state sovereignty and interference in their internal affairs.
