The Ministry of Human Rights received with deep sorrow the news of the death of prisoner Muadh Hamid Nasser Tufyan, as announced by his family after being informed by the terrorist Houthi militias of his death in detention centers on Sunday, 7 June 2026. According to the information available to the Ministry, he was captured on 27 September 2021 on the Al-Jubah front in Marib Governorate, before the Houthi militias transferred him to one of their detention centers in the capital, Sana’a.
The Ministry of Human Rights condemns this crime in the strongest terms, as it represents an extension of the series of violations and crimes committed by the terrorist Houthi militias against abductees and prisoners held in their custody, including various forms of torture and ill-treatment, which in many cases lead to death. The Ministry calls on the international community, the United Nations, and international organizations concerned with human rights to take a firm position regarding this crime and to work to put an end to these systematic practices, particularly as the number of abductees and prisoners who have died under torture in the prisons of the terrorist Houthi militias over the past years exceeds 400 documented victims.
This crime once again confirms the scale of the violations and brutality pursued by these terrorist militias, which are devoid of all humanitarian values, and the acts they commit that blatantly contravene the provisions of international humanitarian law, international human rights law, and relevant international conventions, in addition to the laws and customs for which our country has been known in its treatment of prisoners and detainees. These ongoing practices also expose the true terrorist face of these militias and underscore the need for firmer international positions and decisions affirming their designation as a terrorist entity in view of the grave crimes and violations they commit against civilians, prisoners, and abductees, in response to the demands of victims and their families for justice and redress.
While the Ministry of Human Rights expresses its appreciation for the recent progress achieved within the framework of prisoner and abductee exchange operations, which represents a partial breakthrough that the Ministry is keen to build upon toward the principle of “all for all,” it affirms that the continued occurrence of such crimes heightens concern over the fate of all prisoners and abductees held by this terrorist group and makes the need to accelerate efforts for their release and ensure their safety more urgent, for fear that they may face the same fate.
