Presidential Leadership Council Member Al-Muharrami Stresses the Importance of Documenting Houthi Violations and Promoting Human Rights Culture

The Minister of Human Rights, Meshdal Mohammed Omar, met on Sunday with Presidential Leadership Council member Abdulrahman Al-Muharrami to discuss a range of issues related to the ministry’s work, foremost among them monitoring and documentation mechanisms, strengthening the ministry’s presence in governorates, and enhancing coordination with relevant stakeholders.

During the meeting, Al-Muharrami emphasized the importance of intensifying efforts to monitor and document violations committed by the Houthi movement against civilians, particularly in frontline areas, and submitting professional reports to the competent authorities. He noted that such efforts contribute to exposing these practices and ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable.

The Presidential Leadership Council member also stressed the need to organize seminars and workshops aimed at promoting human rights awareness within society, in addition to training and qualifying members of security institutions and the judiciary on human rights principles and relevant international standards. He highlighted that these measures would strengthen respect for rights and freedoms across official procedures and practices.

He further underlined the importance of building the capacities of government personnel in addressing human rights issues in line with international standards and Yemen’s commitments in this field. He called for special attention to be given to the rights of women, children, persons with disabilities, and marginalized groups, ensuring their full access to rights and protection from all forms of violence and discrimination.

For his part, the Minister of Human Rights expressed his appreciation for the Presidential Leadership Council member’s attention to human rights issues, affirming the ministry’s commitment to developing its tools and working mechanisms, and to strengthening local and international partnerships in support of protecting citizens’ rights and reinforcing the principles of justice and the rule of law.
